ONEONTA — The Storytelling Center of Oneonta opens its new year with a meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at the YAM Coffeehouse, 77 Main St., in the midst of its 10th anniversary celebration. All those interested in storytelling are invited to attend the storytelling session given by members, and also the “sharing” time that follows, in which a member or guest shares information and experiences having to do with a phase of storytelling.

The Center has 18 members who served a term of apprenticeship and are giving programs in schools, libraries, parks, festivals and many other locales in an area covering central New York and extending as far as Kingston, Syracuse, Albany and Danbury, Conn. Center members themselves are from a tri-county area including Delhi, Cobleskill and the Oneonta and Otego areas.

Founded by the internationally known storyteller, Laura Simms, the Center has brought storytellers and writers to give workshops. The members themselves have given workshops for young people to develop their telling of stories.

In November and December, Hartwick College will collaborate with the Storytelling Center in marking its 10th birthday with special programs.

SIDNEY — The New York State Job Development Authority yesterday approved a 20-year loan of $88,500 for the Sidney Industrial Improvement Inc., interest to be paid at the rate of two and three-quarters percent.

The Sidney Industrial Improvement Inc. is a recently formed adjunct of the Sidney Chamber of Commerce operating in conjunction with the Sidney Development Corporation and administered by the corporation’s officers.

Funds will be used to help finance construction of two one-story buildings for the Unadilla Realty Inc., a subsidiary of Unadilla Silo Company. The first building, already completed, has 16,000 square feet of floor space and will be used for lumber storage.

The new Sidney plant will offer more efficient facilities for the silo company’s expanding laminated wood products division. In business since 1906, the Unadilla Silo Company specializes in prefabricated trusses and laminated arches and beams which are used in barns, churches, gymnasiums, industrial buildings, grandstands, bridges and other structures.
