The book is part of a nation-wide effort by hospitals to call attention to the diversity of hospital career opportunities and the need for qualified personnel in many disciplines, V. Earle Nicklas, assistant director of Bassett Hospital, said.
“More than 200 job opportunities, ranging from accountant to x-ray technician, exist in hospitals, but many jobs go unfilled because of shortages of personnel,” he said.
“By alerting more school counselors to the possibilities of hospital careers we hope to encourage more young people to enter these careers,” Mr. Nicklas said. “With nearly 7,000 hospitals in the country and more than 25 million patients each year, the hospital field is one of the nation’s major employers. It will continue to grow to meet the increasing demands for better health care.”
