Richmondville plans 'Ole Tyme Country Fair'

The 36th annual Richmondville Days, set for Friday through Sunday, will be a celebration of the "Ole Tyme Country Fair."

The weekend will kick off with a barbecued chicken dinner hosted by the Richmondville volunteer firefighters starting at 4 p.m. Friday. At 6 p.m., there will be a Little League game at the Richmondville Little League Field.

Saturday will begin with a pancake breakfast at the Lutheran Church from 7 to 9:30 a.m. A pie sale will also be held. A rummage sale will be held across the street at the Methodist Church.

The parade will step off at 10 a.m. Organizers are seeking parade participants, and floats are especially encouraged. Parade entry forms are available from Gary Rightmyer at (518) 294-6550, Deb Haslun at (518) 294-6460 or Lisa Crapser at (518) 294-7112.

Throughout the day, there will be children's games, bounce houses, a sticky wall, Freckles the clown, appearances by Sparkles the tall juggler and Magic Dan the magician. The Richmondville Trolley will be available for rides to event venues. Wes Laraway is bringing his Birds of Prey presentation to Radez School between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Also at the school, the Richmondville volunteer emergency squad will offer a dunking booth.

There will also be a cider making demonstration, bake sales, classic/antique car show, and a girls' softball game. The Richmondville Historical Society will conduct tours at the Bunn Mill including weaving, corn-shelling and broom-making demonstrations and vendors. Bunn Mill will also host the Old Fashion Country Fair Quilt Show.

New this year, will be a bicycle decorating contest will gather contestants at the post office parking lot at 11:45 a.m. for a ride to the firehouse where prizes will be awarded. A pie eating contest will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the firehouse. The winners of a basket raffle at the firehouse will be drawn at 1:30 p.m.

At 2 p.m., teams will vie for the title of the fastest bed in Richmondville at the running of the "300" Bed Races, featuring businesses and charitable organizations creating and racing entries.

Saturday will conclude with a cookout to benefit the Richmondville Youth Organization, followed at 7 p.m. with family square, contra, and folk dance with Paul Rosenberg.

On Sunday, a pancake breakfast will be held at the firehouse to benefit the RFD uniform fund, and the winning ticket for the RFD raffle will be drawn. There will be an ecumenical service at 10:45 a.m.

The Bunn Mill will host the Historical Society Pork Roast, an old fashioned ice cream social, and live music by the Hotpots. At 2 p.m., the old mill wheel will turn once again.
