A new $60,000 traffic light system that will be installed this summer at the intersection of Chestnut and West streets will direct traffic out of Dailey’s Tavern and Pub.

But that’s not soon enough for restaurant owner Douglas Dailey, who said he has received numerous questions from customers and employees about when the traffic signal facing his property will be turned on.

“Sometimes there are two or three cars backed up,” he said.

The current light regulates traffic both ways on Chestnut Street, and on West Street, which ends at the junction with Chestnut. Dailey’s property is directly opposite West Street.

Traffic from the property is expected to increase with the recent opening of the tavern, bakery and butcher shop complex.

While the traffic light now faces in all four directions, only the signals directed towards the streets are working. Bruno Bruni, assistant city engineer, said the signal facing the restaurant will remain off until the new system is installed.

The new system will have a control device that will cause the signals facing Chestnut and West streets to show red when the signal facing the restaurant is green. Bruni said the control device now being used is not sophisticated enough to perform that pattern.

WALTON — The young people in Walton were buzzing with excitement last weekend.

The common greeting was, “Are you going up to Round-Up?’”

The famous movie star Sal Mineo and actress Jill Haward were staying for the weekend at Round-Up Ranch, which is between Walton and Downsville.

Sal Mineo is well known for the part he played in “Exodus.” Jill Haward played the part of a 14-year-old girl in the picture.
