Toy safety reminders; parents be aware of recalls

With more than 65 percent of the toys bought in the United States between the Friday after Thanksgiving and Christmas, parents and caregivers are heading into the country's busiest toy-buying season.....more>>

  • Oxford tree lighting event set
    Oxford's holiday tree lighting ceremony will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at LaFayette Park.
    Festivities will take place by the bandstand, and include music, roasted chestnuts, caroling, refreshments and more.

  • Train rides will be offered in Milford
    The Leatherstocking Railway Historical Society and the Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad will be offering Christmas train rides through Dec. 13.

  • Pre-Gala Auction and Raffle begins
    The Friends of Bassett's annual pre-gala auction and raffle have started.
    Contributed by a range of regional businesses, restaurants and artists, items have been categorized into art, epicurean experiences, fashion and personal care, getaways, home and garden, out and about, sports and more and unique.

  • Margaretville festivities, parade will be Saturday
    The Holiday Treasure Express Parade, with more than 35 floats and marching acts, will be on Main Street Margaretville at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, culminating at the Village Pavilion.

  • Christmas Feeling Fund begins
    The 37th annual Christmas Feeling Fund has started its appeal, with a goal of raising $25,000.

  • Local chefs to give cooking demos
    The Cooperstown Farmers Market is kicking off a new program designed to link local restaurants to local farmers.

  • WWII music video, history program set
    David W. Brenner will present a talk on the life and times of Christopher F. Kompare at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Greater Oneonta Historical Society's History Center at 183 Main St.
    Kompare joined the Navy soon after Pearl Harbor and served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters on the destroyer transport U.S.S. Dickerson. He was killed on April 2, 1945, near Okinawa.

  • Students work on folk music project
    The Cherry Valley-Springfield High School Chorus has completed its research project examining folk music of the Northern Catskills in the 1920s, 30s and 40s.
