Farmers' market season to begin

The Cooperstown Farmers' Market will kick off its 2008 season Saturday with the annual Mother's Day celebration, featuring free carnations for mothers and a live musical performance by Augmented Jazz Duo.

This year's vendors will include Acrospire Farm, ARK Floral, Cooperstown Relay for Life, Gaia's Breath Farm, Goldpetals, Hare and Feather Farm, Heller Farms, Helloonie Ink., The Herb Cupboard, Holy Myrrhbearers Monastery/Zoar Farms, Italian Cookie Home, Lapps Produce, Lucky Dog Farm, Man in the Moon Herbs, Mary Marx, Meg's Gems, Middlefield Orchard, Mountain View Dairy, Nectar Hills Farm, Painted Goat Farm, James Parker, Pumpkin Hollow Maple, Sarah's Snapshots, Shadbush Farm, Summers End Orchard, Surprise-in-Store and The Taste of Britain.

On the market schedule are exhibits by Cornell Cooperative Extension, live music by Skip West, Stoddard Hollow String Band and Polish Moses, and the market's continued support of the 100-Mile Diet, which encourages eating locally.

The Cooperstown Farmers' Market is located off Main Street in Pioneer Alley and operates each Saturday, rain or shine, May through December. Eighty percent of the goods and produce offered by vendors must be produced within Otsego County by the vendor, a member of the vendor's immediate family, or a representative. The producer or farm must be within a 50-mile radius of the market.

The Cooperstown Farmers' Market is sponsored by Otsego 2000. For more information, call 547-6195 or visit www.otsego2000.org/farmersmarket/.
