Workshops set for arts grants

The Upper Catskill Council of the Arts and the New York State Council on the Arts invite nonprofit organizations and individuals working under sponsorship of qualified agencies to submit proposals for the Community Arts Initiative 2009 Otsego County Decentralization, or DEC, grant.

DEC grants provide financial funding for cultural programs in Otsego County with a priority placed on communities outside of Oneonta and Cooperstown. Recipients can receive up to $5,000.

It is the goal of the DEC grant to promote, advance and expand arts and cultural programming at the local level. Projects include, but are not limited to: music, dance, theater, opera, photography, literature and poetry, film, video and radio, folk arts, visual arts, humanities, design arts, textile arts, skilled crafts and multi-disciplinary programs.

Interested parties are required to attend the grant writing, partnerships and marketing seminar.

The schedule is as follows:

Sept. 4: 5 to 7 p.m. Gilbertsville Free Library, 19 Commercial St., Gilbertsville.

Sept. 18: 10 a.m. to noon, Cooperstown Art Association, 22 Main St., Cooperstown.

Sept. 25: 10 a.m. to noon, Cherry Valley Memorial Library, 61 Main St., Cherry Valley.

Oct. 1: 5 to 7 p.m., Wilber Mansion, 11 Ford Ave., Oneonta.

The deadline for applicants to submit proposals is 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10. Application forms may be downloaded off of the website www.uccca.com, or can be picked up at the Wilber Mansion at 11 Ford Ave. in Oneonta.
