Faraway Farm and Stone & Thistle Farm will host a traditional Shepherd's Neighbouring and Lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Stone & Thistle Farm in East Meredith.
The event is free and features a farm tour, sheepdog and shepherding demonstrations, demonstrations of shearing, spinning, felting and knitting and cider pressing.
Traditional Irish and Scottish music and historic games such as the "Wool Gathering," will take place throughout the day. Sheep cheese will be available for tasting and sale. Wool products, including sheepskins, yarn, mittens, hats and felted boots, will be sold.
A Shepherd's lunch, including Irish stews, soups, meat pies, soda breads, puddings and cakes, will be offered for $15. Fresh pressed cider, cider donuts, apples and apple butter will be sold.
The event re-creates a traditional, seasonal event in Ireland and Scotland when shepherds gathered to shear their sheep, show off their sheepherding skills with their border collies, exchange news, barter cheese and other farmstead foods, trade wool and knitted and felted goods and play music, games and tell stories.
