Harvest festival to be Thursday in Morris

The Butternut Valley Alliance will offer its annual Summer Harvest Festival from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Guy Rathbun Park in Morris.

The festival is held in conjunction with the Morris Farmers' Market. Besides locally grown vegetables, meat and dairy products and baked goods, other items will also be offered, including maple syrup products, hypertufa pots and decorative garden stones, and varieties of artisanal goat cheese.

Free samples of food made from local products will be also be offered.

Live music entertainment will include The Ernst Family String Band; piano player Jacob Morris Friedman; Expectations with Lisa Sorensen Stahl, Jim Sorensen and Stan Rabbiner; guitarist Ken Held, formerly of Fetish Lane; and a string band with Darin Trass on fiddle, Randy Miritello on guitar and Will Lunn on mandolin.

Activities for children will include face-painting, a clown, free ice cream and balloon sculptures by "Mike the Juggler."

Elected officials, including Assemblymen Peter Lopez and Bill Magee and Congressman Michael Arcuri, will also be in attendance.

Sponsors of the event are Otsego 2000, Otsego County Conservation Association, Center for Agricultural Development and Entrepreneurship and Otsego Land Trust.

The mission of the Butternut Valley Alliance is to encourage the preservation and protection of the environmental qualities, farming and cultural heritage, economic viability, open space and village charms of the entire watershed, according to officials.
