Local author to speak about book

Josie Giuseppa Basile will speak about her book "A Gift of My Own: A Journey into the Spiritual Realm of Reality" at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at the Body, Mind, Spirit meeting at the First United Methodist Church on the corner of Church and Chestnut street, upstairs in the Main Meeting room, in Oneonta.
A Gift of My Own is available at the Green Toad in Oneonta or can be obtained from Barnes & Nobel, Amazon and is available as an e-book.
Basile shares with readers the lessons she's learned along her spiritual journey.
In a media release, she said, "Answers I discovered are universal and same truths, same messages taught from the great masters - Jesus, Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi."
As an excerpt from "A Gift of My Own" states:
"Even though this encounter lasted only a few minutes, the experience has stayed a lifetime. I have thought of that man often over the years and have sent him bouquets of prayers and good wishes. I vowed to God that day that I would never pass a fellow man that was in need, and asked Him to use me when He needed me. Those thoughts and that vow would change the course of my life and place me on a path that I never could have imagined. This was my calling card and a sign post along the path of my life."
Basile, armed with an expanded perception of herself and of the world, the release stated, then dedicated herself to being an advocate for the impoverished communities of India. She founded the Indo-International School, a school dedicated to educating children from the Untouchable caste.
Basile, an Oneonta resident, is a graduate of the State University College at Oneonta with a master's degree in counseling. Basile is employed by Northeast Parent & Child Society, a therapeutic foster care program. As a foster parent recruiter, she leads the training program in preparation for future foster parents.
