Oneonta Relay kickoff event set
The kick off for the ninth annual American Cancer Society Oneonta Relay For Life will be held Saturday at Joe Ruffino's Pizzeria at 222 Main St. in Oneonta.
Relay For Life information will be available from 1 to 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
Relay For Life benefits the American Cancer Society. It is an overnight event to raise money for cancer research, education, advocacy and patient services.
Relay is a fun time for families and friends, and yet, it is a serious time, as survivors are honored for their courage and strength and the loved ones who have lost their lives to this disease are remembered, according to a media release.
Survivors, businesses, schools, churches, organizations, families, previous team captains, potential new teams, caregivers and families are invited to the kickoff event.
For more information, call Lisa Lamb at 432-0482 or the American Cancer Society office at 563-9634 or (800) 227-2345.
ADK to meet, hear presentation
The Susquehanna Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club will meet Wednesday and hear a presentation by Jay Fleisher.
He will talk about a trip he took in October. During the trip his group traveled from the bottom of Death Valley in California, at 282 feet below sea level, to the crest of the Sierra Nevada Range's Tioga Pass at 9,945 feet above sea level.
According to a media release, the group also visited a regionally extensive chain of ice-age lakes, an abandoned mining town, a winter playground, and a collapsed mega volcano on its way to the Half Dome of Yosemite National Park.
The meeting will begin with supper at 6 p.m., with the program at 7 p.m. It will be at the Elm Park United Methodist Church at 401 Chestnut St. in Oneonta.
