Art contest to focus on gambling addiction
LEAF Inc. is sponsoring a fine arts contest to help bring awareness to the growing phenomenon of problem gambling in Otsego County. LEAF is seeking artists to create striking images that can be used in a campaign to educate the public and prevent problems with gambling addiction in the local community. LEAF is being supported in its efforts with funding from the state Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services.

18th annual Cabaret Night at school to benefit FOMA
The 18th annual Cabaret Night, a fundraiser for Friends of CCS Music and Art, will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Cooperstown High School.
Hockey to be seen at Ice Harvest Festival
On Saturday, Feb. 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Hanford Mills Museum will host its Ice Harvest Festival. The festival will feature historic ice cutting, horse-drawn sleigh rides, ice hockey demos and tips from the State University College at Oneonta hockey club, ice sculpting, outdoor fire pits, as well as children's games and activities.

Talent show, lip syncing to be featured
On Feb. 12, TJ's Restaurant will host Cooperstown's Got Talent and the return of lip sync, presented by the Glimmerglass Festival, as a part of the Cooperstown Winter Carnival.

Relay For Life set to 'Warm Up' at Baseball Hall

Farmers discuss energy-saving ideas at Hobart Rotary event
Thanks to the Hobart Rotary Club, local farmers have a few more ideas about how to save energy on the farm. The club held its eighth annual Farmer Appreciation Day meeting at the Hobart Community Center on Jan. 15, with a presentation by Dick Riseling of Apple Pond Farm.

Candlelight Evening set at Farmers' Museum
Candlelight Evening will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at The Farmers' Museum in Cooperstown.
Relay For Life planning under way
The 2011 Cooperstown/Northern Otsego County Relay For Life will be May 20 and 21 at the Cooperstown Dreams Park. According to a media release, the event has raised more than $1 million to benefit the American Cancer Society during its 13 years. This year's goal is $85,000 and the theme is "Colors of Hope," symbolizing the different colored ribbons associated with the various types of cancer.
