Here’s the thing — there’s a difference between someone leaving a job, and that job being eliminated. Is it possible that some employers will choose not to fill positions that are vacant? Yes. Is it a certainty? Far from it.
It’s also very important to remember that this report is a projection about what is likely to happen in the future. The report suggests that people whose health insurance is no longer tied to employment might choose to leave the workforce. But then again, they might not. Not everyone who has that option will choose to take advantage of it.
The real problem with the CBO report is that its conclusions can’t be easily distilled into a single soundbite. But as with most things, it’s well worth taking the time to separate fact from fiction.
