In Our Opinion: Impaired driving with kids is an outrage

(Continued)

Leandra’s Law was a bill passed by the state Legislature in 2009 after Leandra Rosado, 11, died in New York City when her friend’s mother flipped the car they were in while allegedly drunk, injuring six other children. The law punishes with a class E felony anyone driving while intoxicated and transporting a passenger 15 years old or younger.

Many lawyers in New York state make a handsome living finding ways to reduce charges or free drunken drivers to drive drunk again. We hope that if Ms. Bixby and Mr. Block are guilty, that they are fully prosecuted and Leandra’s Law will not be in vain.
