In Our Opinion: Cheers

(Continued)

To local high school athletes who competed in winter sports state tournaments.

In wrestling, Ryan Marzal of Unatego placed second in the Division II 170-pound championship, and Austin Dean of Sidney lost in the 285-pound semifinal. Also competing in the state tournament were Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton/Harpursville’s Jamie Griswold and Chris Cirigliano, Sidney’s Kai Sabada and Walton junior Logan Robinson.

Three local basketball teams made it to the state quarterfinal rounds, as well. The Franklin girls lost, 52-35, to Hamilton; the Oneonta girls lost, 50-44, to Utica Notre Dame; and the Davenport boys lost to New York Mills, 55-38.

In track and field, OHS’ Mat Robinson qualified to compete in the high jump. Another OHS athlete, Emily Loucks, competed in the bowling tournament.

Although there were no state champions in our area this year, we are proud of all of our local athletes.
