The $175,000 for the launch was among 50 outdoor access projects proposed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo earlier this month as part of his NY Open for Fishing and Hunting initiative.
At the Susquehanna State Forest in the town of Milford, the proposal includes creating a boat launch to provide access to the Upper Susquehanna River and Goodyear Lake.
In 2011, a launch site on private land north of Colliersville was closed to the public, removing the only access point to the south end of Goodyear Lake.
Also proposed is adding add a handicapped-accessible trail and fishing platform at Goodyear Lake, and expand the parking area and improve signage.
Other local projects include handicapped-accessible parking at the Colliersville Fishing Access site and handicapped-accessible facilities at Looking Glass Pond in the town of Fulton.
It’s important for all who want to fish to have access to our local public fishing spots.
Fishing is an important part of our local economy, so we feel this is money well-spent.
