In Our Opinion: Village residents, take time to vote/ Beware of scams

Devlin said his office were contacted by people in the Milford and Maryland area.

“They were suspicious so they contacted us,” he said.

And they did the right thing.

There are numerous scams out there, from buying puppies cheaply from overseas, to cashing checks and keeping a percentage, to mystery shopping.

If someone contacts you saying you have won a contest you haven’t entered, offering a lot of money for little to no work, or asking for a large prepayment for goods, be suspicious. Contact your local law enforcement agency and report it.

Free money is hard, if not impossible, to come by. We’ll add another adage to our advice: It’s better to be safe than sorry.
