Our local colleges would appear to agree.
“Any measures that will assist schools to identify the problem; improve prevention efforts and increase coordination of training and investigative activities are welcome and important steps to address this intolerable and unlawful conduct,” said Hartwick College Vice President of Student Affairs Meg Nowak.
The State University College at Oneonta has a “Know Violence” program designed to focus the blame on perpetrators of sexual assault. Representatives of SUNY Cobleskill and the State University College of Technology at Delhi also said they recognize the problem.
But recognizing a problem and having a clear road map to eradicate it can be two different things. We urge our local colleges — and students — to embrace the task force’s report and do everything possible to greatly reduce sexual assaults.
