Elect Crowell as Otsego treasurer

The election season is here and Otsego County voters should take a close look at Dan Crowell, who is running for county treasurer. I have had years of service in school district and county government. Dan's background stands out as being singularly impressive. I am gratified that he has put himself forward as a candidate. Due to a poor economy and increasing demands on limited resources, local government will be facing several challenges in the next few years of a magnitude unseen in at least a generation. We sorely need someone who is not just capable of keeping the books but also able to help lead us to economic recovery and growth. Dan Crowell has the proven experience, ability and judgment to do exactly that.

Dan Crowell is a homegrown graduate of an Otsego County school, with impressive credentials: Fulbright Scholar, economist trained at the London School of Economics, entrepreneur, businessman and expert in finance and accounting. Beyond that great resume, I vouch for this man's character, intelligence, energy, high ethical standards and dedication to our community. You will see Dan Crowell at community events or on your own front porch in the coming weeks. Please take a moment to engage Dan in conversation and prove to yourself that this is a great opportunity to elect an outstanding county treasurer with local roots and commitment.

Please turn out to vote in this crucial local election on Nov. 3. I strongly encourage you to vote for Dan Crowell for county treasurer.

Glad to see columns will continue

I want to express my sadness at the news that Cary Brunswick has retired. His columns have been one of the bright spots in The Daily Star for me. Not only do I agree with his political perspective, I also appreciate how well-written his columns are.

It's nice to hear that he will continue writing the columns, I hope for a long time to come.

I really like the effort that The Daily Star puts into providing views from all perspectives (even the wing-nuts on the far right).

That balance is rare in a small-town newspaper. and I love it.
