Atheists should stop their whining

This concerns a previous letter about keeping religion out of public places. David Ivins probably doesn’t realize that this country of ours was built on religion. Our amendments were also based on the Bible. I pray and hope that Obama will keep “In God We Trust” on the bills and coins.

I also pray at home and in public. I pray that people who do not believe in God will believe in God and that prayer will be put back in school graduations. Atheists always whine that they don’t have rights and they shouldn’t have to watch people pray. Oh well! Believers have just as many rights to pray as anyone else.

Business owners, if you are believers, hang pictures and put up the Ten Commandments and be proud of being a Christian.

Beware power line’s alternate route

I attended the NYRI meeting in Norwich on Nov. 6.

I was impressed with the quality of the speakers addressing the PSC, starting with Assemblyman Clifford Crouch. One speaker talked about studies that linked overhead power lines with leukemia in children and brain cancer in adults. He went on to suggest the PSC consider changing the route of the primary line to a less-populated area, the alternate route, which is the Marcy South line. We already have a monster in our backyards (which also was an alternative route). We do not need another.

I then talked with other Stop NYRI people who assured me their goal is not to change the route, but stop the project dead in its tracks. Many speakers referred to studies that proved this project would not solve downstate energy problems _ the solution being the construction of energy plants downstate. The consensus is _ this project is a money-grubbing deal for wealthy investors and their lawyers with no regard to upstate citizens or land.

My concern is the lack of opposition in Delaware and Otsego counties. Should this farce be approved by PSC, you can be sure they will take the path of least resistance. We have to join our neighbors in Chenango County to Stop NYRI from happening anywhere.

We must contact our town, county, state and federal legislators, Gov. Paterson and Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, telling them to oppose NYRI before the PSC.

Comments in writing may be sent to: Jaclyn A. Brilling, Secretary, New York State Public Service Commission, Three Empire State Plaza, Albany, NY 12223-1350, re: Case 06-T-0650 _ NYRI Transmission Line Proceeding.

It is time for downstate to take responsibility for its problems and time for upstate to say, ``No more.” Please help.

Buying American has biblical roots

Everyone is concerned about job losses, especially their own, with promises of unemployment going to double digits (more than 10 percent.) Why weren’t either of our presidential candidates encouraging us to “put an American to work by buying American products or don’t buy it.” This is a good Biblical lesson of the Golden Rule, Matthew 7:12. Put in secular terms, “what goes around comes around.” Buying American gives someone else a job who in turn has money to buy the product of the original buyer.

Christmas shopping is upon us; this is your opportunity to remember the Golden Rule. Yes, it costs more initially, but does it when your very own job is moved abroad?
