Vote "no" on upstate gambling

Tony Cellini, Thompson Town Supervisor, a long-time casino advocate, is targeting New Yorkers and the local Hasidic community for ‘Yea” votes in the November referendum to permit expanded casino gambling in the state.

He borrows a page from Gov. Cuomo’s deceptions and bribes; Cuomo granted Indian casinos exclusivity in their areas on condition that they not oppose the casino amendment to the New York State Constitution (vote buying?); he drafted legislation that provides for expanded video lottery terminals (slots) if the amendment fails ; “heads I win, tails you lose”, says the governor, and of course , he beats the drums of revenues for education, ignoring that such money frees up money the state would have otherwise given to education for other purposes.

Cellini’s touting the education money very hard. He promises to oppose fracking in return for casino support. “They don’t want to support us? What, they don’t want clean water?” Dirty water or predatory gambling — that’s his offer. (Herald-Record 7/26.)

New Yorkers downstate, upstate, Jews, non-Jews. Reject the crude bribes and false promises. Vote “No” in November.
