In your Opinion: Oneonta mayor is political tool

City of Oneonta Mayor Dick Miller is a political tool for big industry. From my own perspective I am not the least bit surprised. When I read about Dick Miller “opposing fracking” but supporting the construction of the Constitution Pipeline I can't help but point out the utter contradiction. If one looks at the basic facts it is evident what Dick Miller is about.

Let's start with his supposed opposition toward fracking. This means Miller does not support the industry coming into the Oneonta area. This also automatically means he does not respect the property rights of each individual land owner who may be in favor of drilling on his own property. At the same time he is also willing to violate the property rights of landowners who are anti-fracking/anti-pipeline to have a natural gas pipeline forcibly constructed on individuals' property.

When one takes a moment to think about the situation, it's clear; Dick Miller is anti-private property and pro-central planning. If you're a landowner who wants to drill for gas on your own land, Dick Miller opposes this because it is politically popular. If you're a landowner who owns property along the proposed Constitution Pipeline route, he also doesn't support your property rights because he's willing to support the use of eminent domain (legal theft) to construct the pipeline.

It seems like Dick Miller is trying to gather support by appealing to two different political factions. The stance Miller has taken is one that is financially beneficial for a few and politically safe for him. His stance exposes him as one who is willing to violate the property rights of individuals in order for a specific industry to profit. This is not free-market economics. This is corporatism in action, and Dick Miller is leading the charge.
