Elected officials ignoring public wishes

--
The Daily Star

---- — On March 6, I was one of a great many that attended, as well as one of the large number that spoke out against the terrible idea of privatizing one of Otsego County’s treasures: Otsego Manor.

I am troubled that our elected officials heard absolutely nothing that was said at the Board of Representatives meeting. Representatives by definition are in office to act as agents of the people and are not to act as “loose cannons.” Not a single person in attendance spoke in favor of privatizing Otsego Manor in any form or fashion. The fact that the board, immediately after the open meeting, did go into closed session and then do exactly the opposite of the expressed preferences of those whom they represent, is indicative of behavior nothing short of gross misconduct.

While it may not be certain that a change in management at Otsego Manor at this point can help a great deal, it is certain beyond doubt that a wholesale change is necessary in our elected officials on the Otsego County Board of Representatives.
