Gibson represents the working class

The Daily Star

---- — As a heated campaign season draws to a close, voters throughout our country will focus on casting their votes. And while 2012 will go down in history as the year when more dollars were spent on political advertising than ever before, one must wonder if only the wealthy have a place in our political system.

Here in Otsego, Schoharie and Delaware counties we have an opportunity to re-elect a man who truly reflects the best interests of the people he represents. Congressman Chris Gibson has demonstrated time and again there is room in politics for hardworking men and women from working-class backgrounds.

In his first term in office Chris has fought for taxpayers, senior citizens, farmers, small-business owners and, most important, our young people. Despite the campaign rhetoric of the past few weeks, the record is clear. Chris has actually helped to protect Medicare and Social Security. He has supported government investment in meaningful job creation and led the fight to make broadband technologies available to the rural areas of our state.

But what I find most impressive about Chris Gibson is his ability to work effectively on a bipartisan basis with fellow representatives from all over the country. There is far too much rhetoric, gridlock and partisanship in our nation’s capital.

Former Gov. Mario Cuomo, with whom I served in Albany, is fond of saying “You campaign in poetry. You govern in prose.” I agree. It’s very clear that Chris Gibson understands this. That’s why he deserves our support on Nov. 6.
