---- — It’s a technological marvel; a product ahead of its time, or at least ahead of the law for the time being, that is.
I am writing about the soon to be released “Google Glass,” a portable computer with a head-mounted display (HMD), which is bound to be another distraction to motorists just as the cellular phone is; if not more due to the additional attention the wearer must pay to its video display that is projected through a lens of a pair of glasses.
In many states it is illegal to have a television set in the front section of a motor vehicle; a law at best scantly enforced and outdated considering the many display screen features already incorporated into the dashboards of cars, trucks, recreational vehicles and boats.
New York has an opportunity here to be one step ahead of this new technology; to “read the writing on the wall,” and possibly be the first state in the nation to implement new motor vehicle laws prohibiting the use of a HMD while operating a motor vehicle or boat because: “Google Glass can cause a Google Crash.”
