I would be remiss to not comment on the letter to the editor written to the Daily Star by Michael Stavola (Wednesday, Dec. 11) regarding the “low morals” and “lack of respect” shown by the members of the Otsego County Sheriff’s Department.
Let me tell you about my experiences. I have had the privilege and honor to serve as one of the Otsego County Coroners since 1997. It is the duty of the coroner to investigate and determine the cause and manner of unattended deaths in the county. At each of these investigations, either an Otsego County deputy sheriff and investigator or a New York State Police trooper and investigator is present to assist me and work with the bereaved family.
I want to assure the citizens of this county that you have the finest law enforcement officers available. The Sheriff’s Department and Troop C are staffed with capable, concerned and caring officers. I can only ponder that an incident involving Mr. Stavola and the Sheriff’s Department didn’t turn out the way he wanted, but a blanket accusation is out of line.
