Beware of scams that sound too good

Beware of scams that sound too good

A couple of days ago I received a check from a publishing company for $5,956.25. This amount supposedly was part of unclaimed lottery money of $1.5 million. I was advised also to call a certain phone number as soon as I had deposited the check. This I did. The voice on the other end wanted me to send that very day a check for $5,000. I said no, the check has to clear first.

The next day the bank called to say that the check for $5,956.25 had bounced. I was not surprised.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t true.
