I have given serious thought recently to a problem to come that has been ignored, unfortunately, by everyone. It is this: now that the names of sport teams that denigrate Native Americans are being changed, I am sure that the people of PETA will soon pay attention to the names of animals used for sports teams.
My solution is this: let the teams concerned name themselves after vegetables. (I had thought, at first, of “vegetables and fruits,” but I realized immediately that that idea would not fly.)
I can see no possible objection to names like “The Buffalo Artichokes” or “The Massapequa Potatoes.”
