Snow 'tanks' leave many signs in woods

I often snowshoe after a big snowstorm and follow wildlife tracks to see where they lead. I have noticed lately however, that most tracks are obliterated overnight by what appears to be tank tracks. My assumption is the Pentagon has invoked yet another clandestine operation to protect us from terrorists, night patrols (to avoid detection) of commandos in snow tanks.

I propose a tip of the cap to those patriots patrolling on snowy nights. I’ve never seen them, like many who serve without hubris or bravado, yet commend them for their humble service night after snowy night.

I once found their signs and markers erected across our property. Assuming they forgot them, I removed them so they would not be discovered by terrorists, but I did not know whom to contact to return them.

Later, I found a map showing their patrol routes which extend for many miles. There was a phone number, so I called to tell them about the posts and signs. They said they knew nothing about them. Hush, hush, top secret, I figured. I also noticed on the map there was what looked like refueling stops, coinciding with local bars. Clever, once again I thought. Using grain-based fuels instead of wasting fossil fuels for their tanks.

I’ve noticed that deer and other wildlife use my snowshoe rather than tank tracks as travel routes, to avoid tanks, I assumed. Could be they are offended by lingering methane odor?

Friends have complained about the zigging noises late at night, shrubbery being ripped out, and pets run over, but I say they are a small price to pay for the protection of our freedom and liberty afforded by these brave commandos. Many thanks to those, whoever they are, that patrol and protect.
