Dear hunters, as the rifle season begins, I would like to take the time to remind hunters to be safe in the woods. This includes wearing blaze orange any time you are in the woods during hunting season. I think sometimes we forget how important our own choices can be or how much difference one small decision can make.
Nov. 19 will be the one-year anniversary of my father’s death.
My father was involved in a hunting accident that resulted in his death. My father had made the choice to take off his orange while in the woods. If he had been wearing orange in the woods that day, I am certain that he would still be with us today.
As you are getting your hunting backpack, clothing, gun and bullets ready to head out in the woods, I beg all hunters to remember one small but important thing. Please, please remember to wear orange. Something so simple and small may truly save your life and prevent your family from going through what my family has had to deal with.
