To Anna Marie Lusins, these jobs you speak of in your recent letter are one-year jobs in our area. One year — the projected time it will take to complete the pipeline. Then what? Oh, yes, I forgot — fracking.
The proposed pipe feed to Delhi sponsored by Leatherstocking, at a cost of $20-plus million (who is paying for that?), is entirely of PLASTIC. No welding jobs there. As for lack of real jobs, go read some back issues of The Daily Star. For more than 30 years, this has been a problem. It’s not just Oneonta, it’s a lot of small cities. I can’t recall any instance where the lack of natural gas was an issue nor cause for the decline.
Manufacturing going overseas, maybe? How many are graduating from SUNY Oneonta and Hartwick? They are not flipping burgers, changing sheets, or waiting tables. They are out in the real world, holding real jobs (maybe not here) and paying taxes. They are living the American Dream.
