The Daily Star
---- — For those of you who haven’t been paying attention to the disturbing actions that have been on display by town of Richfield board members Laurie Bond and Mary Margaret Snyder over the past two years, you’d be appalled by the “government run amok” show that they’ve put on display to stifle the public’s concerns over the Monticello Hills Wind project (an industrial wind turbine project that would feature 492-foot-tall turbines in the town of Richfield along scenic Route 20).
Despite the public’s outcry for a temporary moratorium to be enacted, Bond and Snyder continue to ignore the public’s voice, and then vote against adding heavily qualified people to the current open town board and planning board seats (due to recent deaths). Bond and Snyder provide little to no response to the public’s questions on the open board seats, moratorium, wind project and long-term comprehensive plan for the town, and appear to be dumbstruck when fielding the public’s questions. But maybe that is the result of being guided by town lawyer David Merzig that they don’t have to explain themselves or engage in conversation with town residents at meetings. So much for transparent government.
During a recent planning board meeting and vote, Merzig advised and supported what in my opinion is an illegal vote, even though town Supervisor Fran Enjem was reading the municipal law and asking the planning board not to vote. Merzig informed Enjem that the legality could be straightened out in court. A town lawyer wants to push residents into court, and the actions of Bond and Snyder look fishy. Makes you wonder what their agenda is.
