Our pro-gas county representatives are either liars or fools. In Pennsylvania, instead of widespread economic prosperity promised by the gas industry and their shills, unemployment is above the national average, and up from last year, because the gas boom has turned to a bust!
Moreover, Pennsylvania proves that gas drilling is an incompatible land-use option in populated and agricultural areas. Nobody will buy fracked yogurt, fracked corn, or even a bale of hay from a field contaminated by flowback water. Nobody wants a drill rig operating a few hundred feet from their home.
Our local elected officials who argue gas drilling is in the county’s best interest are shortsighted and misinformed; they are willing to put everyone in jeopardy and sacrifice our precious natural resources for a “dead-end” industry that will place us all in great risk well into the future ... simply for the benefit of a few individuals over the short haul.
With the upcoming election, it is time to replace pro-industry “radicals” with representatives looking for a viable and sustainable future that does not place us at the mercy of a ruthless and reckless industry that is out of control.
Otsego County needs rational county representatives who are interested in our long-term future and not just obtaining short-term gain for a small minority. We need to elect people like Beth Rosenthal in District 7 (Cherry Valley, Roseboom, Middlefield), John Kosmer in District 8 (Otsego), Gary Koutnik in District 11 (City of Oneonta), Stu Anderson in District 3 (Otego, Laurens), Dan Buttermann in District 4 (Town of Oneonta), Ed Lentz in District 5 (New Lisbon, Hartwick, Milford), and Teresa Winchester in District 2 (Pittsfield, Morris, Butternuts), who are not gas industry spokespersons and who will act in our long-term interests over that of the gas industry.
