I have been honored to serve as Otsego County treasurer and am eager for the opportunity to build on our successes. These have been some of the most challenging times for local government in a generation. Despite the challenges, we have saved Otsego County taxpayers millions of dollars by implementing cost saving initiatives such as refinancing the county’s debt and restructuring the county’s health plan.
The County Treasurer’s Office has also become a resource of objective information on such issues as municipal mergers, gas drilling, Otsego Manor and the annual county budget. None of these issues are simple or one-sided. But as treasurer, I have worked hard to leverage data and the tools of financial analysis to enhance the quality of the debate and offer clear unbiased information.
Although there is a distinct possibility that I could again be called to active duty for a period of three to six months over the next four years, there will be a plan in place should that occur. As in this past year when I was called to active military service, Russ Bachman’s work ensured a stable transition. I encourage you to confirm for yourself with your County Representative, of either party affiliation, the bipartisan respect he has gained.
Most importantly, I hope you will consider what we have accomplished over the last four years, take into account the proven stability we have established, and also support the role Guard/Reserve service plays in strengthening our democracy. It has been a great honor to serve you these last four years and I would be deeply grateful for your vote again on Nov. 5.
