---- — As a new resident of Delaware County, I have become aware that we all need to mobilize our efforts to ban fracking in New York state. One of my main concerns is the pollution that we will expose us and our environment to dangerous chemicals.
A new study published in the journal Environmental Science and Technology and conducted by the University of Colorado has shown that in Erie, Colo., — a fracking location — more than half of the volatile pollutants in the outdoor air are connected to emissions from oil and natural gas operations.
These dangerous levels of pollution have placed Erie as a place with on average 10 times the levels of propane in its air than that of highly smoggy Pasadena, Calif. My hope is that our community will unite against the gas-drilling operations using fracking so that we won’t make the list of infamously polluted areas in the nation.
