Experience at track was a pleasant one

The Daily Star

---- — I would like to share my experience with NYST after spending a day participating in one of their track days. First off, to debunk some of the misinformation being circulated about the facility.

The track does not hold “racing” events, as I have heard countless times. I participated in the cars group and it was very well-organized and probably safer than my daily commute to work. Passing is only permitted on the half-mile straight part of the track and only when the driver being passed slows down and gives the signal to pass. Again, this is a controlled environment with the participants’ sole focus on driving. I felt much safer on the track with these drivers than I do on public roads where driving has become part of a multi-tasking circus for most people.

The venue itself is wonderful place to meet like-minded people and just enjoy good conversation as well as the opportunity to drive a world-class road course. Most of the people traveled several hours to get there and spent the entire weekend in Oneonta, which of course means more money coming into the community. I was told by several of these people how lucky I was to have such a great track so close by. I urge you to visit the track for yourself before passing judgment.

There is no cost to attend as a spectator and I guarantee you will be impressed with the facility, its staff and the great atmosphere. My parents, both of whom are in their 70s, even attended as spectators when I was there and had a great time. This is not a bunch of hooligans racing their friends and risking the safety of the general public. Greg and his staff have done a great job providing us with a safe, world-class track and environment in which to sharpen our driving and riding skills.
