Fracking should go to a vote

Gas fracking is not being handled well by our representative government. Our officials were not elected on this single issue alone. Consequently, no matter how hard they try, they can never accurately represent us.

To be adequately represented on important issues, such as fracking, we must be allowed to vote. Moreover, the referendum must be in clear, unambiguous language, such as: Do you want fracking in your town? Yes or no?

County should be able to handle Manor

In my opinion, the problem at the Otsego County Manor is a problem the county board has created with a hands-off approach. And now instead of fixing the problem it wants to sell it! Delaware County Countyside Care Center is a perfect example of what will happen to the Manor if it is privatized.

The problems at the Manor have gone on for far too long and the board has failed to get involved, We depend on the government in today’s age to fix everything. Otsego County residents are investors in the Manor! And yes, we do have a say in the matter! Remember, you work for us!

There are management issues at the Manor. I would like to see an audit conducted at the Manor. I would like to see where every dollar goes — see what we the taxpayers are paying for. I would like to see what we pay the management at the Manor! Out of the 265 employees, how many are managers and supervisors?

If a private company can make a profit from the Manor, then the county should be able to do the same with proper management and with a professional marketing campaign — or at least balance the books!

Here’s an idea: How about we have all county employees and managers contribute toward their heath insurance! I think it’s time we support the ones that do make a difference at the Manor, and replace the ones that are only along for the ride! I only hope the board steps up to the plate and makes an effort! Set an example, put in a little effort and make the Manor a success!

And, yes, I think we need to keep the Otsego County Board’s term at two years. not four years!
