College apartments would disturb neighborhood

College housing would disturb neighborhood

Shocking news has been hanging on the grapevine for a number of weeks, and we pray that is only a nightmare. The building of dormitory space at Clinton Street seems to have been canceled by the raiding of a replacement residential area somewhat closer to the SUCO campus.

That neighborhood is adjacent to Catskill Area Hospice and residences occupied for many years by now mostly elderly people who have spent years peacefully improving their properties. The peace of that neighborhood is well-known.

The university has plenty of land on Upper West Street, which is close to the campus and an ideal location for dormitories. Why, then, must the peace and quiet of residential neighborhoods be disturbed by developers who have little concern for the culture of the city or its values?

Our SUCO neighbors might guide them to better locations for additional dormitory space while we pray that this nightmare will pass.
