Save Teen Center before it’s too late
I have recently heard that the Oneonta Teen Center is closing. This is a mistake and it makes me very sad.
At a time when all of us, and especially young people, have so very little in our lives that is real — real physical places to gather and invent, to express and discuss, to commit to and work on; real physical places where we can play and connect and be ourselves — the last thing Oneonta should do is close our Teen Center, which gives all of these things to our youth.
Budget constraints or no, our children deserve to have this place they have invested in and care about. We’ve paid for cell phones, iPods and computers; let’s give them something even more important: a place to call their own.
I urge all of you who don’t want this closing to happen to speak up now before it’s a done deal. We have voices, and we have the power to make meaningful choices for our community. Choose wisely; use your voice now; let’s show our kids we care about them.
