I was appointed to fill out a term as the town clerk of the beautiful town of Butternuts in May of this year. There are many people who have been a tremendous help to me and I’d like to publicly thank Doris Moennich, Joyce Pettingill, Nicki McNeil, Leigh Eckmair, Michele Farwell and our town board, to name a few. Thank you!
Based on the following, I thank and endorse for re-election Supervisor Charlie Eckelmann. Once, I was asked to audit the town’s books. Never have I seen a system like Charlie’s! Checks, balances, documentation of every penny — not just in one way, but in multiple ways! A paper trail for everything. I am so impressed with the fail-safe accountability and transparency of his system. It showed me the town is in good hands.
In getting ready for the monthly board meetings, I’ve watched him spend hours preparing. Any letters or emails that come in that affect the town are presented to the board at monthly meetings because “the whole board is responsible for running the town and they need all the info that comes in to do it.”
I’ve driven home and seen him cutting the grass at Copes Corner Park. He makes phone calls and talks to senators to get funding for the town when there is funding available. His genuine concern for what is best for the town is impressive. Being retired, he always makes himself available whenever he is called upon, which I have seen is often! We are fortunate to have him.
I have met many of the good, decent, honest people in our town. What shines through always is a love of the area, community involvement and the willingness to help each other wherever there is a need. God bless you all.
