The Daily Star
---- — Despite the poor debut of the ACA due to server issues, we must keep in mind the true benefits of this historic legislation. The problem I see is that the federal government has done a poor job educating people about the law.
For example, many people think Obamacare is a terrible idea and the Affordable Care Act will be good. It shows how little people actually know about it, I think it is a good thing. For example, the ACA allows Americans to stay on their parents’ insurance plan until age 26. Also from ages 19-25, the 48 percent uninsured in 2010 decreased to a staggering 21 percent in 2012. These are great boosts to the general population; a strong majority agree with this.
You can no longer be denied coverage for pre-existing conditions, and companies with 50 or more employees are required to provide health insurance. Subsidies will help Americans greatly with their health insurance cost. The subsidy calculator will determine how much help a person gets depending on the amount of people in the household and how much they make.
It is clear that this is a very helpful law and I think it people will learn to like it more and more as time passes. Just as Social Security and Medicare were met with strong opposition, you would be hard-pressed to find someone willing to give up these programs today.
