In Your Opinion: We can be proud of Obamacare

Obamacare is an outstanding success, the best national accomplishment of the past 25 years. Thank goodness! Due to Obamacare we now have 25 million Americans newly covered by insurance. That means more than a million Americans who will not lose their homes through medical bankruptcy each year.

Thank goodness that millions of Americans will now get to see the doctor in time to save their lives. No insurance meant that all too many avoided doctors since they couldn’t afford care — and a result thousands lost their lives through delayed care. This is really an amazing step forward. And thank goodness as well that medical costs are at last beginning to come down. By promoting open-ness and real competition, Obamacare has begun to bring prices down — quite considerably.

Of course things could be better. Obamacare is significantly behind the health standards of the Veterans Administration health system. The VA provides the best health care at even better prices. But too many larger stockholders, too many $20 million-a-year health CEOs, stand to lose by making the system even better. Too many people stand to gain by a system where millions of Americans lose their homes and millions more die prematurely.

But thank goodness for what we have accomplished! Obamacare is now saving millions of lives and keeping other millions from medical bankruptcy. And saving the taxpayers million by lower prices for drugs and medical services. We can be proud and grateful for a new standard of national decency.
