Gibson must be ready to compromise
I wish to congratulate Chris Gibson on his recent election.
I am a resident of Otsego County, and a new constituent of Mr. Gibson’s, since the restructuring of his district. I am deeply concerned about the lack of compromise among the Republicans in the House of Representatives. Now, I continue to read that John Boehner is posturing to resist compromise regarding the taxation of wealthy individuals making more $250,000 a year.
We have watched with utter disgust as John Boehner wields his stranglehold on the House. I have read that Rep. Gibson is a believer in compromise, and I look to him to demonstrate leadership in the House by refusing to stand by John Boehner on this issue.
I hope that Mr. Gibson will have the courage to urge John Boehner and the House Republicans to demonstrate good faith with his voters in compromising with the president by increasing the tax rate on wealthy taxpayers.
This is a first test of the ability of the House Republican majority to govern in a new era, which will require compromise in many areas. I am hopeful that Mr. Gibson will show strength and leadership in representing this district.
