Meters aren't the right answer for C-town

The Daily Star

---- — My family and I recently visited Cooperstown during our vacation last week. Very nice. We had a great time. We visited The Farmers’ Museum and Main Street.

The problem is parking. Beautiful historic village, Baseball Capital of the World, and now you are forced to pay for parking! Not only that, you have to park your vehicle, find a machine, pay the machine, get a ticket and walk back to your vehicle put the ticket on your windshield. How much does it cost, you ask? Fifty cents per 15 minutes! Isn’t that a bit much?!

People travel from all over the world just to come and see the Baseball Hall of Fame and maybe catch a glimpse of a famous player. Is Cooperstown that desperate? Is it going broke? Does one of the most famous villages in the United States need the money? Charging for parking is NOT the answer.

Cooperstown is supposed to try to attract visitors, not discourage them. It is bad enough that everything in Cooperstown is so expensive. Adding parking to the cost does not help. Cooperstown needs to remember not all visitors are made of money from out of town. Some are local as well.

Speaking of locals, I feel sorry for the people who live in Cooperstown, who face the high cost of parking every day. Cooperstown, you really need to rethink what you have done, and a correction of your actions is in order.

If you want to address parking in Cooperstown, how about looking to build parking lots and, most importantly, how about addressing parking for the patients at Bassett Medical Center? That is a huge concern and a major safety problem. If you want to do something for the good of Cooperstown, let’s get the real problems resolved.
