The Daily Star — Seward has been asset to the local area
As a mayor of a small town, I can say that working with our state legislators is a necessity of the office.
After working with Sen. Jim Seward for the past 20 years, he has made it easy. He has been responsive to our requests for aid and has always displayed a genuine interest in the village of Sherburne. In fact, he even follows up — a rare thing in today’s Internet world.
Jim has visited our community whenever possible and I can’t think of how we could be better served by anyone else as our state senator. That is why I am supporting Jim Seward for re-election to the state Senate and as the state representative for our area, and urge Republicans to vote for him in the primary on Sept. 13.
Acee is mayor of the village of Sherburne.
Letter-writer misleads about gun violence
Mr. Jefferies, I was only going to write “Your logic makes me sick and I can respond no more,” but here goes:
First of all, 30,000 goes into 250,000,000 something like 3 into 25,000. Where else in this world is anything so safe? Compare! Every year a gun in the U.S.A. saves millions of lives by private citizens brandishing a gun during an assault, burglary, etc., and no shot fired.
No. 2. Columbine was tragic! A day or two later, an idiot in Beijing or some other Asian city drove his Mercedes through a school playground, making the children a slaughterhouse scene.
Columbine might have been averted had there been better family structure and an injection of the Lord and personal responsibility.
And now No. 3, the red-haired fruit loop is again a tragic incident.
Had just one individual been a true “I love my family and country” type of person, the tragic scene may have been more like: three dead, seven injured, nutcase dead, true American citizen a hero. Just one armed, honest citizen.
One armed honest citizen properly trained (most gun owners are) and one or two shots and millions of dollars, thousands of hours, hurt, pain, destruction beyond belief and so much more hell. Why? Why?
Personal responsibility! Again, I love and live the Lord.
