The Daily Star
---- — Recently, we had some compelling letters and opinions on the gas industry and how it can benefit local economies. Marie Lusins’ letter explained how the Manor home and its woes could be, or could have been saved with vertical-well gas drilling.
Also we have Dick Downey and Mike Zagata explaining how these dollars could stay local, by law. All will agree one of the biggest problems with New York state is Albany and the politicians who run the state; they take our tax dollars put in the general fund and dish it out to buy votes.
Wouldn’t it be great if the local economies had funds to use wisely and locally. Seems like a win to me. Populations are falling, school systems are battling Albany all the time for (state aid) a 20 percent loss to school populations, it’s not gonna work, people. Where are the taxes coming from; like it or not you trip over the reality signs.
Here we have a model just across our border, a real-life education system to learn from, the do’s and the don’ts. This state has to get its head out of the ground, open its eyes; what’s happening is not sustainable, Otsego. You can’t continue to tax and regulate what’s left in the business arena. They will move on.
