The Daily Star
---- — A story in Tuesday’s paper by reporter Joe Mahoney mentions that I am opposing Fran Enjem for Richfield Town supervisor and calls me “a supporter of the (wind) turbines.” The first is accurate; I am running against Mr. Enjem for supervisor. The second is a fabrication. I have never said so and Mr. Mahoney has never spoken to me.
At the public hearing in question, I urged the Richfield Town Board to postpone any action on the windmills until after November’s election, when the board will be at full strength and the voters will have had their say. In other words, I spoke in favor of fundamental democratic process.
At a public hearing in July, I told the Richfield Planning Board that my own conversations in the town revealed broad support for the wind turbines. Residents understand that windmill revenues will help to keep property taxes down, every year from now on.
In a letter published by The Star last November, I argued that the town board’s rejection of a moratorium comported with state law.
To question a sweeping, town-wide ban on industry, poll town residents for their opinions and reject the false narrative of the windmill opponents is not at all the same as supporting the turbines.
Very sloppy reporting.
