Cooperstown should get more state funds

Recently, someone wrote in about the high parking fees in Cooperstown. I agree that this may not be a good idea, if it bothers visitors and hurts businesses. The writer asked if Cooperstown was broke. The fact is that it does not receive adequate tax income from the visitors that come to the area.

Oneonta, Utica and other cities get considerable state tax income from visitors that are drawn to Cooperstown. The problem is that Cooperstown does not get its fair share of state taxes. New York state should give Cooperstown its fair share of tax revenue that this beautiful village brings to the state.

I have written to Gov. Cuomo last year and this year, asking him for Cooperstown’s fair share. I ask all of you to write to the governor and ask him to do something regarding this inequity.

The address is Gov. Andrew Cuomo, New York State Capital Building, Albany, NY 12224.
