I just finished reading the letter dated Jan. 7, titled “Volunteer EMS system has problems.” I would suggest that every fire department and emergency squad send Mr. Lane an application, since he obviously has more than enough time on his hands to sit next to a scanner all day and night and criticize what he perceives as a problem.
Maybe when he has to place a call for help, he will remember those of us who are in classrooms for weeks on end, fulfilling state-mandated training, just to be able to volunteer in service to our communities. All the while, we’re missing family events, missing meals, missing sleep, being out in below-zero weather for hours, standing in the pouring rain directing traffic at an accident, putting thousands of miles on our own vehicles or rushing into a burning building to save the backsides of armchair quarterbacks like you.
And don’t worry, you can thank us later. After all, we’re “just volunteers.”
