In your opinion: Cuomo's comments would make ridiculous reality

--
The Daily Star

---- — On Andrew Cuomo’s recent comments: “Their problem is not me and the Democrats; their problem is themselves. Who are they? Are they these extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay? Is that who they are? Because if that’s who they are and they’re the extreme conservatives, they have no place in the state of New York, because that’s not who New Yorkers are.”

The expected outcry from the “far right” hit the airwaves quickly. What about other less “extreme” individuals — NRA members, for example, who believe the right to bear arms is a constitutional right not limited to specific types of guns? Is it time for them to “move out of New York? And Catholics that do not believe in abortion — is it time for “Catholics” to move out of New York state?

In a country where religious freedom brought millions to our shores with promises of freedom from persecution for their religious beliefs, do we decide that their religious beliefs, when contrary to our progressive society, may no longer be represented by those believing that way? Freedom provided to some is not freedom; it is privilege.

Who will determine the individuals that should receive these “privileges,” Mr. Cuomo? Who will determine which New Yorkers should remain? Would the pope be welcome to visit? After all, he does not condone two of the three views that, in your opinion, make someone “not belong” in New York. Shall we ask all our non-active-duty soldiers to leave New York as well? Most believe in their right to bear any and all arms. It will be very hard to cover all the lost taxes when we begin to evict the “unqualified” New Yorkers from New York state.
